[A certain someone (read: Ayabe) is getting a knock on his room door in the afternoon. A pretty insistent one. And like two seconds after he starts knocking, the person (read: it's 100% Mammon) is already raising his voice:]
[ It takes another two seconds for Ayabe to open the door, and he would have started yelling back if it were some ungodly time of night instead of the middle of the afternoon when he's in the room alone.
He opens the door a little sullenly, pulling his thumb away from his mouth. He sure pricked himself with a sewing needle when Mammon started banging, but at least it didn't draw blood. ]
[Mammon doesn't look mad, but he looks a bit annoyed, like two seconds of waiting for Ayabe to open the door is two seconds too long. What could he be here about? An emergency? A MURDER??]
[ TERRIBLE but Ayabe's immediate reaction to pouting is to pat Mammon's head, this is what calms down his five-year-old sister and Mammon is the five-year-old stand-in. ]
Don't whine. I'll play with you, but only for a short while, okay? Just until somebody else wants to play, and we'll let them have a turn.
[ Did anybody ever explain what happened in the library with all the books tossed around everywhere?? Ayabe couldn't hear anything going on during trial so if so, he missed it. People explained the important bits to him and that's what matters, there wasn't anything he could do besides return to the lounge to pick up those stray library books he'd found there and then head to the library today to put them back on their proper places on the shelves. ]
[Mammon is found lounging on one of the leather arm chairs, a blue book in his hands that he's reading. There's a bird on its cover. Its hard to tell what he thinks of the book - he frowns slightly, and yet he doesn't seem to be putting it down anytime soon.]
[He doesn't even notice Ayabe entering, only shaking his head as he turns another page.]
[ It looks like Mammon's sight has returned too, with him being so engrossed in the book that Ayabe's able to place the ones in his arms back on the shelves and walk to Mammon's side with empty hands he slides in his pockets, leaning in slightly to read the title of the book.
[ You know what would be great? If Mammon could hurry up and lift this curse.
After the body announcement, he gets himself cleaned up, takes a trip downstairs to check on something, takes another shower, and then a third or fourth one before the day is out, when does Mammon want to run into him ]
[Probably heading upstairs after spending some time in the basement to unwind, and well, well, well, here's his future amazing demon-endorsed chef human.]
Oh. He says when he sees Ayabe when he comes to the stairs, a little surprised.] You headed down?
[ They can play that game where they keep getting in each other's way trying to step left and right until they accept they're at an impasse on the stairs. ]
Yeah. It's- ...There's no point anymore, but... Have you been inside the lake?
[ Some time after the execution, whatever happens during the execution, Ayabe goes to find Mammon so he can return his happiness. It's probably late into the day; there's just something about people dying left and right that makes him want to lie in bed and not get up again ever. ]
[Well, here he is, leaning against one of the walls in the hallways near the bedroom. He's...a little more somber than usual, though he smiles when he sees Ayabe.]
His reply was a bit snappy and he regrets it immediately, but he can't quiet manage a smile back for Mammon as much as he wants. Instead, he sighs, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck. ]
Sorry. I'm not sleeping well and I'm pretty fed up with all of this.
[His slight smile twists down, his gaze a little guilty - for him, Asch's death is bad, yes, but something to cry about. Humans are humans. He's outlived tons of them. He'll outlive tons more. But to see people he actually is beginning to care about be this upset...]
[It's hard to play the cheerful attitude here. He isn't even really feeling it.]
I feel the same way. [He rubs at an eye with a sigh.] I feel like...we did so much. I especially tried real hard, y'know? And in the end...we didn't get it. The wrong person died. It's unfair.
[ It's not a smile, but a softer look that settles on Ayabe's face when he says that, before he casts his eyes down to the ground and bites at his bottom lip. They all tried real fucking hard, and in the end, it didn't even matter. They condemned the wrong person, they wasted so much time on the horse just to be told to forget about it, Ayabe could only help one person but not everybody as a whole.
He's sick and tired and hopeless and it sucks. ]
45 told me last week not to feel too bad about it, that I hadn't caught on to Nikki before she killed Haruka. It's... like that now, too. Feeling bad about it, but don't beat yourself up over it.
[ If. Mammon was doing that in the first place, anyways. Either way, he says it for himself too. ]
[He is beating himself up over it, though he probably won't outwardly admit it. Especially to Ayabe, who already seems to expect he can break the curse or whatever thing is going on that's keeping them here.]
I just... [He starts, stops. Shakes his head.] If we did so much here, what will happen the next time? What if we miss things again? It feels like...like we're in the dark, here.
DAY 2 lets give it up for day 2

What? Did something happen?

I want to play this and I don't have anyone to play it with! So you're comin' with me!
[Yes.]
[This is the big emergency.]
no subject
Huh...? There's a whole house full of people and you can't get anybody else to play billiards with you?
[ He wants to believe really bad that people are just too busy doing serious things and can't be bothered with fooling around, but. He knows better. ]
It's a game you can play on your own, isn't it?
no subject
[POUTS!!!]
It's not as fun when you're by yourself. So c'mon already! Let's go!
no subject

Is it a storybook? A fieldguide on birds? ]
no subject
Ah! [He jolts, surprised.] Sheesh, warn a guy before you come up to him like that!
no subject
Sorry. If I spoke up, wouldn't I have surprised you anyways? You seemed absorbed in your book, I didn't want to bother you.
no subject
[He pouts a bit, letting the book fall to his chest.]
It's okay. I'm not the bookworm type, but...I was told to read this book, so here I am. Doin' just that.

Why would I want to get inside a lake?
no subject
[ Maybe he saw light glint off the surface and thought there was coin inside, who knows Mammon's life ]
Anyways, you should stay out of it. There's some nasty stuff down there- tentacle monsters, some frog guy, leeches...
[ Bad things. Do not touch the water. ]
no subject
[yes]
Uh. Tentacle...monsters? [NANI] What the hell are they doin' there?? I get the leeches, but...WHAT?
